Die Asphaltkapelle wurde anlässlich der Oberbayerischen Kulturtage in Altötting 2001, konzipiert und errichtet. Seit Juni 2002 steht sie am Waldrand bei Etsdorf/OPf im Landkreis Amberg-Sulzbach und ist ganzjährig zugänglich. Es ist das einzige Gebäude, das ausschließlich aus Asphalt (Gussasphalt) besteht. Es können Opferkerzen darin angezündet werden. Jedes Jahr findet Anfang Mai das Asphaltkapellenfest statt, mit Segnung eines neuen Künstlerkreuzes am "Kreuze-Weg". Seit 2014 gibt es die kleine Konzertreihe 1:12 – jeweils an einem Sonntagvormittag. Von den Asphaltkapellenfesten und den 1:12 Konzerten gibt es Filme. Der Christbaumkugelhimmel ist alle zwei Jahre zur Weihnachtszeit zu sehen, zu Weihnachten 2026 wieder.

The asphalt chapel was designed and built on the occasion of the Upper Bavarian Culture Days in Altötting in 2001. Since June 2002, it has stood on the edge of the forest near Etsdorf/OPf in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach and is accessible all year round. It is the only building made exclusively of asphalt (mastic asphalt). Sacrificial candles can be lit in it. The asphalt chapel festival takes place every year at the beginning of May, with the blessing of a new artist's cross on the “Kreuze-Weg”. Since 2014, there has been a small concert series called 1:12 - always on a Sunday morning. There are films of the asphalt band festivals and the 1:12 concerts. The Christmas bauble sky can be seen every two years at Christmas time, after the year 2022 again at Christmas 2026.
